Life

Ever feel like you just don't know what is really going on in your life?? Little lost? Little hopeless? Little like this just isn't really what you had seen when you were growing up and you have it all "planned out"?? Ok, so thats me now!!

I never knew that having the love of my life being French would come with a long list of "Just To Make Your Life A Little More Complicated Encase It Wasn't Already" of things.

First. Only can be in his country for 90 days at a time (as we're not hitched).
Second. The French Chamber of Commerce wants proof of health insurance to apply for a visa (which allows you to be in a country for longer than that legally and so on).
Third. Well, I don't have health insurance!!
Fourth. The soones appointment they can see me is 4 days before I am supposed to return to France and it takes 3 weeks to get the visa!!!!
Fifth. I'm not really sure that my $1000 plane ticket is so "date flexable friendly".

And the list just goes on and on and on.... So what do you do when your stuck in this position?? Sure, getting married would solve 90% of the problems but who gets married just to make things easier? Most people and most people also end of divorced!

What to do?? What to do?? Any suggestions???

J'tame Paris

We decided to take a little Bon le Petit Voyage Romantique to Paris <3
Eva would stay with her Mammie and Pappie in the south of France and Adrien and I would go stay a full 3 days 2 nights in the city of love! As for Eva, when I returned she was still alive... as for "City of Love", lets just say we spent a lot of time on the tube, also known as the subway...
I've been to Paris before so we didn't have to do all the too touristy things... But of course, its not going to Paris if you don't see the Eiffel Tower and take a stroll down the Chaumps-Elysees to dream about shopping in all of the so expensive with one item purchase it would drain the average persons bank account, stores! Unfourtunaetly for me, I only get to look at those stores... as for my Pretty little French Boyfriend... we won't go there! Sometimes life is just not fair!

Shall we move on???

The Ice Kube!! Nearly as far as the tube will take you without being out of Paris, located in the Indian district middle of-looks like no where. Down a little Chemin that you would never notice in the day light more less never find in the night, is a super posh metro style hotel known as, The Ice Kube. And ice is excalitly what it is! For 40 Euros you can go in, get 4 Grey Goose cocktails and spend 30 minutes of your life in a bar of nothing but ice! Fun? Yes! Expensive? Yes! Cocktails? Yuck! Fun? Oh yes! Will I do it again? Probably not! But for sure, it was lots of fun and my dear little French friend, Ju came along :)

Some girls say diamonds are a way to the heart but for me, I prefer CHOCOLATE!!! Well, thats probably because I've never got a huge diamond before... When I do, I may reconsider..
Salon Du Chocolat!!!! The largest chocolate convention in the world! You better beleive I was there!! It was everywhere!!! I was in heaven! The thought of it now just makes my mouth water! Fountains, sculptures, chocolate butter, jams, clothing, wine, liquor, cups, soaps, truffels, dumplings.... the list goes on and on!! Everything chocolate!!! From every part of the world and every flavor you could ever dream of! Chocolate cheese for crying out loud!!

I also got to spend an evening with some of my most favorite French Amis!! I missed my Nat and Anne-C but next time :)

Do like the French & STRIKE

A few weeks ago my father inlaw says, "Be really careful with the gas, there is a scheduled strike so gas may be low...." Not really knowing the extent of this until my mother inlaw says, "Jean-Mark (father inlaw) is working from home this week to save gas and to monitor our usage.... " Considering he is a very careful man, I still didn't thing too much about it....
Next day, watching the news. It looks like a crazy zombie movie where the army is spraying the people in the streets with water to keep them back because they are going completely mad!! I mean, burning fire in the streets, jumping on random cars and smashing in the windows! MAD!!! And its not even like old people, its mostly young! For what you ask??? Social Security!!

Apparently the government here is trying to raise the retirement age to 65. So far they are standing their ground but I was told that the people will stay on strike until they get what they want!

22nd Birthday

When I was 20, I couldn't wait to be 21... When I was 21, I thought it would be cool to be 22... until I turned 22! Now I am realizing that I am just getting old!!!

Luckly, I have amazing frineds here in France who celebrated my day with me and it turned out to be one of the best birthdays I have had yet!

We went to a fondue restarunt, which was as good as it was fun! Then off to a little bar where I was forced to wear a confetti blonde bob wig and then attacked with confetti! This was followed by several glasses of champagne, cake and presents :)
Next, night club!! This is where I realized just how old 22 actually feels!

Entering the night club, I was feeling pretty good! One drink in the night club... It's all good! Mama can handle this! Um.. did anyone see Isa? Oh yea! We lost her!
I think I need another drink.... two down... I'm down!! Literally! Sleeping on the sidewalk!! How I made it back to the taxi stop is beond me! According to the pictures, I must have been sleep walking because my eyes were closed the entire time!!

And then... my brand new iphone4.... gone! Just like that! Left it in the taxi :(

Potty Time!!

My sweet little Princess is only 19 months old and is already telling me when she wants to go potty!!!!!!!!!!

She is growing up way too fast!! I am so proud of her but I'm scared to see whats next!

I would give you fellow Mommies some tips... but really, it's all her!
I leave the potty where she can see it and just started asking her when I would change her dippar if she needed to potty and sure enough... now she's telling me!!

She tried to kill me.... again!

My mommy in law has an International Hiking Group here in France... I had went on a few hikes last year and well... I hated it!! So feeling a little more adventerous, I thought I would give it another try!

I loved it!! I mean sure, it was more like rock climbing than hiking... steep, sharp rocks, knowing that one wrong step and down the cliff you go into the sea!!! Yeah, it was amazing! Finally reaching the top and seeing just how beautiful something could be! I vote to add this very spot to be a new wonder of the world!
And... good excerise as well!!

Take a look at the hike today :) And then... be jealous !

Easily distracted when driving

So here I am, in a hurry as usual... on my way to work on one of these darn country France roads which is barly big enough for two cars! I know that after this huge curve there is a bridge only big enough for one car (you can only see the other car when you get to the bridge)... So here I am, coming around the curve... here I go... and I see a huge white van on the side of the road next to the bridge... At first, distracted by the size of the van (every car here is so small) but then even more distracted by the man peeing behind the van into the creek (which happens to be the natural water supply for the village)! So of course I am not looking at the bridge! I am in shock that this man would not only be peeing in the open but into the creek!!

BEEEEEPPP!!!!!!

Oh NOOO!!! A CAR!!! CRASH!!!!

Lucky for me, I crashed into the guard rail and not the little black car with a too cute for his own good, little guy driving!

He stops. I reverse. He steps out of his car. I jump out of mine totally embarrassed . I'm unsure if he speaks english so the only thing I can do is say, "That stupid man was peeing" along with hand gestures of well, a man peeing!

Totally embarrassed! He was totally laughing and the look on the man peeings face was priceless! I hope he learned a lesson!!

France Fall Trend

In all of the stores here in France, the fall collection consists of bluejean shorts, blazers, boots that all the Ag girls wore in the greenhouse, tights and swade!

I thought it was a little crazy at first but now, I think I like it!

Little Job

So, I got a little part time job... if thats what you wanna call it... for this culinary school thats here in Aix for 2 weeks doing tours and cooking. Mostly older, wealthy women living the dream, but anyway! My job that would usually be so simple actually was quite difficult at times due to.. how should i put it?? Oh yes! I dont speak French!!!! GRR!! I was to go to the supermarket everyday and purchase the items that would be cooked for dinner that night...

One, I don't know how to cook anything except pasta (which I mess up from time to time) and cookies that come in a tube(which i usually mess up as well)! Two, did you know that zucchani comes round as well as long?? Crazy, huh?! Three, there is still that language barrier where I cant read French either! So you can only immagine how I was in the supermarket searching for irrigular items! My work hours were around 4 hours a day minus 20 minutes of drving... yea the rest was in the supermarket!

One day I shorted the mushrooms by 2 kilos (2.2 pounds) and the next I had to find a poissonieer (fish market) and buy 80 euros worth of "la grande crevette crue" , also known as big raw shrimp!

Dukan Diet

Diet! Diet! Diet! Excerise! Excerise! Excerise!! I spent nearly an entire year doing this. Sure, it worked but I was at the gym 5 times a week! Every week!! I finally got to a hump that was impossible to get over.... Until I arrived in France :)

I arrive and my mother in law (who is 50) is skin and bones!! Knowing that she does not do much excerise (other than hiking on Tuesdays) I was in shock! I had to know the secret! Since last summer she had lost nearly 30 pounds! When the words "high protein diet" came out of her mouth, I just couldn't beleive it! I had been doing everything except that!

Are you ready for it?? Its called the Dukan Diet. I didn't need to lose much more weight, just enough to get me over my hump. In nearly two days, it was done! I swear! Two pounds in two days! It was super easy!

I didn't read the book and I didn't do the full diet. I just simply did what Isabelle (my mother in law) is doing now (not that she needs to diet anymore but she is on phase 3). One protein day a week. I did it, its done, I lost the weight, I'm finished!

http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/

Here is the link for the diet and if you have any questions just ask and I'll find out for ya!!

My little Push-GO!

Beep! Beep!! It's official. I am now driving my very own car around the streets of France! If I want to go, I go. If I want to stay, I stay! I love it! It may be as old as I am a little rough around the edges and not have power steering but what can I say.... I just love it!!
Although putting gas in the little thing was a little more difficult than I expected... One, you have to use a key to open the tank. Two, the gas pumps here don't come with very clear directions. When I say clear, I mean in a language I do not speak. Luckly my first time at the gas station (which took around 15 minutes) a lady felt sorry for me and after watching me struggle for 10 minutes decided to come lend me a few words of advice... I didn't understand one thing she said but something must have registered because suddenly the pump worked!
I have pictures on my Facebook if you would like to see how I'm Rollin in France :)

Such a beautiful country! Great wine, bread of every shape and size, shopping that will make you cry be because you cant afford any of it, expresso, living with your in laws, perfect weather, beaches, in laws and the cute little cars! Its just simply perfect! Yep, per...per...pe... Lot harder then I thought it would be!!!! But it's totally cool... I have my .10 seconds a day to pull my self back together, take in all the beauty and remind my self how lucky I actually am....then, I'm fine!

I found a little job and a car! Job- small cleaning for a rental home and going to the bakery. Car- I'm buying it for 1 euro and all I know is it's as old as me and red!
I don't really have either one at the moment but hopefully I will soon!

Otherwise, could someone just pray for me!! I could use a little help sometimes!

Daycare :)

Nearly 19 months ago, the thought of some stranger watching my baby play for a few hours scared me to death... until now!

Don't get me wrong and mistake my happiness for something other than what it is... But you have to understand that for 19 months now, I have been nothing more than a stay at home mom and girl friend. Not that I haven't loved every single second of it, because I have! But a little break here and there will only keep me sane a little longer! If you don't have children or ever been a full time stay at home mom then you have no idea what I'm talking about.. Therefor, you might just think I'm the devil for what I'm about to say!

Daycare = Vacation !!!!! Whooo Hooo!!! Who ever thought of dropping your child off to play with other children and being supervised by a few middle aged women is noting more than a total life saving, genius!!

Today was my sweet darling Princess, Eva's first day at daycare. I didn't understand a word that the ladies were saying so I let Mama Isa do all the talking... Because I had no other choice! We sat and watched her play (when I say play I actually mean take all the toys to her self) and she loved it! I was so happy to see that this daycare thing was not so bad after all but a great start for Mommy to have a few hours two times a week to do absolutely whatever she feels like :)

Getting in the swing of things

So we have been here a little more than a week and so far have had a really good time! I've stayed with Nathalie twice in her mansion in Marseille :) , been sailing, to the beach, seen lots of friends, took Eva to the zoo (which was more like a hike on the side of a mountain trying to find animals) and to the market... Pretty good time so far :D

Living with the inlaws isn't so bad after all... Eva loves them both to death and they are really great with her! With this big house and huge garden, I would never survive without them! I just cant keep up with the kid! I need at least 5 more of me! But Pappie is careful and easy and Mammie is loving and likes to spoil... They speak English and are easy to get along with and I guess I'm pretty lucky after all :)

Next step is to learn French!!! Then I'll know if they feel the same way about me ;) or ....do I want to know????!!!

Day 1

After a 9 hour flight to Amsterdam, proving to security that my child was indeed mine and not stolen, a two hour flight to Marseilles and not sleeping in 20 hours, I was ready to throw the towel in! It was rough but we finally made it!
The inlaws were at the airport waiting on us with "bisous". You know, the fancy little kisses you always see the people on TV doing. Its actually not as easy as it looks... there are rules to this bisous thing and anyway, that's another blog!

We arrived to out "new home" celebrated with a little local wine in the middle of the day (real French style) and watched Eva explore the garden and drag around her new best friend... her Pappie :)

Jet lag!!!!!!!!!! EHHH!!! Eva and I are finally on French time! (6 hours ahead of the USA)

Great News!! We're moving!!

So, those I talk to regularly knew that my family and I had planned a vacation to France to visit the inlaws for 2 months. Five days before time to go.... (Adrien)"Baby, I have some news! My visa got denied so looks like we're moving to France!!" WOW! Just like that!! First thinking he was joking... soon realizing that he was for real! I don't think that the shock actually set in until the day before time to leave. I knew that it had because I hadn't really stated packing and everything that Adrien said to me, I had to disagree with. Just being the typical hysterical woman that just finds out that she is having to move to the other side of the world and doesn't even speak the countries language! But worse, having to leave most of my precious shoes!!!!!

Five days later I'm on a plane with everything that I could pack up into 6 suitcases, with Eva, on my way to France! But not just moving to France. In France, living with my inlaws!

Thursday, May 20, 2010

This has been one of those weeks where I could have used some motivation!!! Every day I would tell my self that I was going to get all the things that I need to do done ..gym, laundry, errons, mani pedi that I so need... etc. I could go on all day!!

But, what I have done?? ... I managed to spend another $75 on Princess Eva at her fav store, Baby Gap, the second time this month!!
I seriously need help or she needs to pic a new favorite store!

Go figure!

Summer Trends

Everyone wants to be "IN", so I thought that I would fill you trendy gals in on what I've been seeing here in the big city!

Turquoise!!! It's everywhere!! On everything!! From the pedicure all the way to the eye liner! If you wanna be "IN" clearly ya gotta put your self out there a little.
But, surprisingly I like it!

For the hairdos, the messier, the sexier! Try just some leave in treatment and let it go! For something a little more put together do a side braid. Cute, flirty and fun! I'll post soon on my tricks to master this do!

Out to play or on the town, throw on a jumpsuit!! This is one of my favs!! You can seriously wear rompers with heels to sex it up or flats! This is a must have this season! I found some hot buys at Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and Papaya.

Terrible 1's

So, we have all heard of the "Terrible Two's", but for me, they have came a little early!!

Little Miss Eva, also known as The Little Monster, started strongly about a month ago. I get anything from a no, refusing to eat, to a full blown raging temper tantrum! I know, poor me! So, at first not knowing what to do with this child, I would simply ignore her. This clearly made everything worse! She would get even more mad and the fit would last even longer!
After about the millionth temper tantrum, I realized that I had to try something else or I was going to lose it!! So what did I do??
TIME OUT!! I know, crazy to think time out for a 14 month old but, i had to try something!

Here is what I did... When she started getting mad because she was not getting what she wanted, I would stop what I was doing, pick her up and put her in time out (on the couch, in her bed if she continued to not listen) come down to her level so we were eye to eye and calmly speak to her and explain why she couldn't have or do what she wanted then I would walk away. Every time she would get up, I would calmly put her back and tell her again, Ÿou can't do this and when your calm you can get up..."
It took about 30 times but finally she started getting the picture. Slowly the temper tantrums shortened and she knows that no means no.

It is important when doing this that you stay calm and stick with it. Other wise it is pointless and the child is more confused.

Fitness Tips

Here are a few of my favorite fitness tips...

Early Morning Exercise
My favorite time to work out is first thing in the morning before eating. It is proven to be the most effective because your body will need energy and will get it from storage (calorie and fat). However, I recently learned that by drinking coffee 20-30 minutes before working out will increase muscle resistance and give you more energy. So drink up coffee lovers !!

Late Night Snacking
The worst time to snack is right before bed so try to plan your meal times. It is best if you eat 3 hours before bed that way your body has time to digest and store less fat.

Sweet Tooth
If you really want to lose weight then you gotta make some sacrifices! Stay away from all the junk food! No cream, cookies, chocolate or cocktails!! Instead, try salt less almonds, greek yogurt, fruit, sugar free jello or cottage cheese. I always give my self a party meal. I set one day of the week where I can eat whatever I want for being so good all week!

5 Is the Magic #
A diet does NOT mean to starve your self!! To achieve good results forget about the 3 meals a day! Up it to 5! By eating smaller portions and more frequently, your stomach will stay busy and your metabolism will stay up. Try to eat ever 3-4 hours and lots of protein after working out.

Me TIME

Here are some great ME TIME ideas that really work for me.

-Hot bubble bath (warn Papa that this means do not disturb unless house in on fire)
-Tanning (tan fat is prettier than white fat girls)
-Walking (if you just popped one out, start slow)
-Mani/Pedi (always makes your fingers look better in dish water)
-Mommy support groups
-Exercise class (yoga or spin are my fav)
-College course (I know you think its work, but its good to see other faces)
-Shopping (My fav :D)

Now, I know that in order to do these things it requires leaving the baby which can be extremely hard! Don't worry, the baby will be fine! Leave Dad everything that he could possibly need in any possible event along with your number on speed dial. Don't lecture him too much because there is a good change his feelings will get hurt because you don't think he knows what he is doing... But, he has seen you do it enough and watched all your demonstrations! He’s got it under control!
I know, Mama does it best!!

Fitness Jump Start

I have a lot of Facebook friends asking me my little weight loss secret. So, I decided that I would add some of my "New Mommy Body" secrets in my blog. But first, I have to thank my best friend Kelly because it was her smokin hott mommy body that motivated my little chunky butt to get movin! :)

So, this is just what jumped started my weight loss and what I like to do. This does not mean that it will work for everyone or that you will wake up skinny with abbs in the morning... Nothing happens over night... except pregnancy!

Ready? CARDIO!!! I know, right?! Why didn't someone tell you sooner??
Cardiovascular exercise is the most important, most basic and most effective. Spending about 30 minutes 3-4 times a week will strengthen your heart, give you more energy and help you to lose weight.

I like to start off by running/power walking for about 20-30 minutes then finish up on the stair stepper for about 10-15 minutes. This way it switches it up a little. When I'm having a lazy day I'll divide my time between the elliptical and the treadmill. But its just whatever your more comfortable with!

Hope this helps you some!!

First Things First..

Bringing the baby home is sooo exciting!! You have waited 9 long months for this little bundle of joy and now you finally have it! Along with tons of company, a million phone calls, a jiggly belly, dirty dippers, cute little baby, feeding schedule, huge boobies, hair loss, no sleep, depression... the list can go on and on.. did I mention beautiful baby, jello belly and everyone telling you how you should do things???

The most important advice I received was, Sleep when the baby sleeps or you'll never survive!
This is so true and crucial ladies! The laundry, bottles, dishes and telephone will be there when you wake up!! For me, I did not follow this advice until it was too late. I was busy little homemaker, had to have everything perfect and ready for when the man came home. I did not have any mommy time or what I prefer to call - ME TIME! This is so important to have! How are you going to take care of someone else if you can't take care of your self?

For the New Mommies

I have a lot of friends that just popped out little ones so what better way to share my little bit of mommy/baby knowledge than by blogging about my "First Year Experiments".... I'm no professional but I do have a little experience under my belt now and I know what worked for me and what didn't.

I'll post regularly some tips on what to expect as a young Mama with a little one and how I managed to survive...

First Time Blogging

So.. I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while now but never did because I thought that it just really wasn't me. However, after lots of encouragement from Adrien (my boy friend) and all my lovely FaceBook friends comments and questions, I thought I'd give it a try! My blog is going to talk about a few things. Motherhood, fitness & health, life in the city, family & friends and how I do my best to keep it all together without pulling out my hair!
